About Us

We are an international group of young engineers, artist, scientist, designers, and entrepreneurs in 5 countries.

A bit of history

Founded in 2007 by Azn Alahah, Netgroup is a Bay Area-based private equity/consulting/research firm interested in positive social impact. We are particularly interested in new platforms and in the use of information technology to achieve those goals. We are headquartered in Berkeley, Ca in a unique building where we have our lab, shop, garage and workspace in one location.

In addition to our own home-grown projects, we look for emerging companies with entrepreneurs that have the vision, passion and discipline to transform an industry.

We invest in emerging companies as well as venture spinouts and restructurings that are at an inflection point of a market opportunity.  Our geographic focus is companies whose headquarters are in North America, with approximately 50% of our investments outside of the San Francisco Bay Area.  Our investment pace is highly selective, averaging 4 to 6 new investments per year.

Netgroup partners have built the Netgroup Network, which includes enduring relationships with hundreds of important industry executives and entrepreneurs.  We work actively with members of this broad network to provide key value-add to our portfolio companies such as customer introductions, team and board recruitment/enhancement, technology, business development, sales and marketing partnerships, investment and acquisition.

Successful venture-backed companies are built upon trusted relationships among venture capitalists and entrepreneurs.  We strive to be the go-to advisor for our portfolio company management teams, and the most active board member, in and out of board meetings.

Independent of due diligence on any particular company, the Netgroup team conducts ongoing primary research projects into important technology industry sub-sectors. These research projects help us create and update our investment roadmap, target specific new investment opportunities, and increase our domain knowledge, and it helps our portfolio companies identify the most promising market opportunities worth pursuing.

With category defining outcomes five times in the last decade, Netgroup has realized successes through our strategy of investment selection and active guidance to help our portfolio management teams build large and sustainable businesses. As venture investors we recognize that over 80% of our successful investments are likely to be acquired by strategic partners, and therefore believe it is critical to start planting the seeds for an eventual outcome early on in the company’s lifecycle.

Netgroup has relationships with hundreds of industry-leading companies across every major sector of business.

A day in the life

We like to get things done. We also like to have a bit of fun doing it. If you'd like to buy us pizza or a carton of diet coke to help us perform at our best, we should talk.

In addition, mate preference reflects theories of evolutionary psychology, which states that men prefer fertility to pass on their genes, such as youth and physical attractiveness. Women, however, favor traits related to resources, such as good earning capacity, social status, education and intelligence, and ambition and industriousness. I guess this is so to provide for a family?

I really like being in the company of people that are direct in communication, have a sense of whats going on around them, and that may have an outrageous or dark sense of humor.....humor is important. I am straight forward and try to live my life with intention, continuously improving and growing into that person that all my friends and family can depend on. I am more directionally orientated than goal orientated-although I have those too. I am motivated by peak experiences, like travel, family, friendships....
